Tempest: The Underdog. A person who, at a glance, stands no chance at winning. Little do people know, is that with great determination, an underdog can overcome even the mightiest of obstacles! Most interestingly, boxing is the preferred sport for fictional underdogs!

Hydro Frez: Like KO Kid, the boxer of mobile apps from Super KO Boxing!

Tempest: And Little Mac, the quick footed powerhouse of Punch Out!

I'm Tempest and he's Hydro Frez and it's our job to analyze their weapons, armour and skills to find out who would win, a Death Battle!

---
KO Kid
First Appearance: Super KO Boxing

Age: Unknown
Height: Above 5'5" (est)
Weight: Unknown

Feats
Excellent Boxer
Has taken down 15 opponents of varying backgrounds and powers in Circuit Mode
Said opponents include, but are not limited to:
-A caveman
-A goblin thing that can become an invincible monster
-
Two witch-doctors
-Two men who can channel electricity
-A being who can control light and darkness
-The Executioner. 'nuff said
In Exhibition Mode, he's taken down a mutant with a baby for a face, 15 Pence (aka, Mister Cheapskate) and a four armed alien with lasers and teleportation
His hair is awesome

Hydro Frez: ...

Tempest: ...

Hydro Frez: ...

Tempest: ...Well?

Hydro Frez: Well what?

Tempest: Uh... his backstory?

Hydro Frez: He doesn't have one.

Tempest: What? All characters have some kind of history! It's like the golden rule of any fictional universe!

Hydro Frez: Uh... he was born in Richmond Texas?

Tempest: ...That's it?

Hydro Frez: Pretty much. To be fair though, he is from a mobile game, one that's a complete knock-off of the Punch-Out! series. Cut him some slack, eh? There's no such thing as bad characters, just bad developers! Don't blame the game, blame the developers!

Tempest: ...Something tells me Cecilia will want a word with you about what games are really about.

Ahem... luckily, despite the complete lack of information regarding our mysterious KO Kid, we can glean some details off from the gameplay, like his training which is-

Hydro Frez: Boxing! Duh! Complete with trashing the opponent!

Boxing Skills

Swift and agile
Focuses on speed over power
Relies on jabs, hooks, feints and uppercuts

Guarding
-Blocks attacks
-Reduces damage to a minimum
-Cannot protect from overhead attacks
Taunting
-Charges Super Meter
-Leaves KO Kid vulnerable for a second

Hydro Frez: Meh, seems pretty standard for anybody who's a boxer. I bet Little Mac is no different. Same with Rocky Balboa. Or Ippo Makunouchi.

Tempest: Much like the franchise his game ripped off, KO Kid is a master tactician and strategist. He relies on avoiding attacks by swiftly sidestepping and countering with a flurry of jabs and hooks to the body and face. He can exploit any enemy weakness by following their "tell" and punish them with brutal combos and anything he can't block, he'll simply guard. Even if there is only one way to win, he will find it.

Hydro Frez: One way to win? What? This is BOXING! All you do is punch people until they're black and blue! How else are you supposed to win?

Tempest: Certain opponents like King Tub, Sake Bomb and El Diablo can only be beaten by doing a specific combination or move. For example, King Tub can only be beaten by first dizzying him, then smacking him with low punches, then by following the star cue, and finally by using the combo high punch, low punch, low punch.* If you don't, he just keeps regenerating his health.

Hydro Frez: ...Yeah, this seems like a very fun game.

Mindset
Tactically and strategically inclined
Even if there is only one way to beat an opponent, KO Kid will find it
Focuses on exploiting enemy signs

Tempest: When KO Kid needs a little more "oomph" to his punch, he has one trick up his non-existent sleeve, creatively called... the Super Meter.

Hydro Frez: Quick! Somebody get these developers some Imagination Pills!

Tempest: By repeatedly doing combos and dodging attacks, KO Kid can fill up his Super Meter. Once it is full, he can unleash the Super Punch, yet another creative name, which has him deliver a blazing uppercut and literally coats his fist in fire!

Hydro Frez: The Super Meter can store up to three levels of power. When fully charged, KO Kid can focus his energy to further increase his power. At full power, the Level 3 Super Punch is a guaranteed OHKO! The downside is that it takes some time to charge and doing so will leave KO Kid vulnerable to attack.

Super Meter

Super Meter is charged by landing hits and dodging attacks
Taking hits, even while blocking, will lower the Super Meter
Can store up to 3 charges

Super Punch

A flaming uppercut
Comes in 3 levels
-Level 1: Launches a flaming uppercut that deals more damage then a regular hook
-
Level 2: Not much difference, just slightly more damage
-Level 3: Guaranteed OHKO if it hits

Tempest: Well, that seems to be everything-

Hydro Frez: BUT WAIT! THERE'S MOAR!

Tempest: Wut?

Hydro Frez: Believe it or not, anytime KO Kid is put on the ropes, he has a Super Mode known as Roid Rage!

Tempest: ...Please tell me that's not what I think it is.

Hydro Frez: YES! By making an in-game purchase, KO Kid can have access to pills that will not only make him a hulking bloodshot bruiser, but any damage he takes is reduced to its utmost minimum and he becomes strong enough to take down even the toughest of enemies like Dynavolt and The Executioner with only a few punches! In order to even hurt him, one must have a very hard hitting power like the monster version of Grogul!

Tempest: And all over the world, athletes everywhere are crying into their gym sweats.

Roid Rage

Increases KO Kid's strength immensely to the point where it only takes a few punches to put down his opponents
Increases durability and stamina to the point where only the very strongest of fighters can damage him
Even then, damage taken is minimized
Retains his speed, both movement and striking
Sends a horrible message to any child playing this game

Tempest: As luck would have it, KO Kid is not invincible in this form. If one posses super strength, they will be able to put fight him on an even ground and maybe even manage a TKO if they're lucky.

Hydro Frez: It's much easier to beat him before he takes the Roids though. His taunting, while useful, leaves him wide open to attacks and since the Level 3 Super Punch takes time to charge, it's not entirely reliable and can still be interrupted by the opponent even when he's taken Roid Rage.

Weaknesses

Taunting leaves him wide open to attacks
Level 3 Super Punch, while a guaranteed OHKO, is unreliable and can be interrupted quite easily
If the opponent has super strength, they can fight mano e mano with KO Kid when he's Roid Raged

Tempest: Steroids... in a sports game... that kids play...

Hydro Frez: So remember kids, if you're having trouble winning at sports, just pop a pill, get super buff, and beat the everloving shit out of your opponents!

Tempest: Or just remember this message.

Hydro Frez: Bit late for that now...

*Author's Note
That's not actually the combination for beating King Tub, but it's somewhere along those lines

Little Mac
First Appearance: Punch Out!! (1984)
Age: 17

Height: 5'7"
Weight: 107 lbs

Feats
Accomplished Boxer
Has become Boxing Champion several times
Has defeated a vast array of opponents
Beat Mike Tyson, an accomplishment in itself
As of the latest Smash game, he can keep up with veteran brawlers like Mario, Link, Pikachu and Samus Aran (non-canon... probably)
Defeated Nintendo's own trademarked heavy bruiser, Donkey Kong

Tempest: Oh thank god! At least Little Mac has a backstory, right?

Hydro Frez: Yup, but it's not much.

Tempest: Whatever, just say it so that the audience will be entertained.

Hydro Frez: Little Mac is from Bronx, New York. Prior to the original games, Little Mac would meet up with Doc Loius, who would not only go on to teach Little Mac everything he knows about boxing, but become the boys mentor and close friend as well. From there, Little Mac entered the World Video Boxing Organization, a completely bogus shakedown where little things like cheating and weight classes were excused and dismissed. But Little Mac ain't no quitter! He persevered through these unfair conditions and fought his way through numerous opponents that were, for the most part, completely out of his league and eventually became the champion!

Tempest: From there, he would go on to win a few more times, defending his title and beating opponents that would be kicked off the circuit in real life, but hey, can't argue with video game logic. Unfortunately, his boxing dreams were shattered after Mac suffered a humiliating defeat after fighting King Hippo.

Hydro Frez: For 15 years, Little Mac would wallow in his misery-wait a sec. 15 years? So what, he was two when he fought King Hippo?

Tempest: Eh, conflicting resources. The commercial for Punch Out!! (Wii) states that Little Mac lost to King Hippo 15 years ago, but his in-game bio reveals that he's 17.

Hydro Frez: Vids or it didn't happen.

Hydro Frez: Huh... Well, given that Nintendo released an official time line for the Legend of Zelda and fucked things up even more, I'm not too surprised.

Tempest: Anyways, after spending a few years in retirement, Mac came back to the WVBO with a passion and not only defeated King Hippo, he went on to become grand champion again! Twice!

Hydro Frez: A good example that the underdog will always* win!

Boxing Skills and Smash Attacks

Swift and agile
Focuses on speed over power
Relies on jabs, hooks, feints and uppercuts

Guarding
-Blocks attacks
-Can guard his face and body
Straight Lunge

-Chargeable
Jolt Haymaker
-Can by-pass projectiles
Slip Counter
-Counters physical attacks
-More likely just another way of dodging and then countering
Rising Uppercut
-Launches Mac upward with a corkscrew motion
-Poor vertical distance

Tempest: Much like his opponent/copycat, Little Mac focuses on speed over power with a heavy emphasis on precision strikes. He is notably quick footed with reflexes that can keep up with people who can teleport and outrun bullet trains!

Hydro Frez: And because we are such nice people and because I'm sure there will be eventual complaints, we are including Mac's move set from Smash Bros to add a little diversity to the playing field!

Tempest: Like any underdog fighting against people outside his weight class, Little Mac must think tactically and strategically in order to overcome and dodge his opponents heavy hits!

Hydro Frez: But don't be fooled by his size! Little Mac can take and dish out a lot more then might be physically possible for some as small as him!

Mindset and Physicality
Tactically and strategically inclined
Focuses on exploiting enemy signs
Strong enough to damage Bald Bull and Mike Tyson
Fast enough to land strikes on Piston Hondo and Great Tiger
Tough enough to take a few hits from Mr. Sandman,
Super Macho Man and Donkey Kong

Tempest: And just like KO Kid, whenever Little Mac needs to put more power into his fist, he can use the Star Punch!

Hydro Frez: The Star Punch is used by gathering "stars" by hitting opponents at certain openings in their attacks and taunts. Each place to hit differs from opponent to opponent. Little Mac can store up to 3 Star Punches and can use them all up in move for a super powerful uppercut! The downside is that if Mac gets hit while he has stars, he'll lose all of them.

Star Punch

Gained by hitting opponents at certain times
Extremely powerful
Can store up to 3 Punches
Charging and releasing all of them results in a super powerful uppercut
Little Mac will lose all of his Star Punches if he's hit

Hydro Frez: And while probably not canon, if he's put on the ropes, Little Mac can become the hulking Giga Mac after his Giga Mac Juice bar is filled up by striking the opponent at certain intervals!

Tempest: Or he can use a Smash Ball... which we won't include since Giga Mac will last less then 20 seconds with it.

Hydro Frez: Giga Mac is a true powerhouse, sacrificing speed for overwhelming power! While Little Mac focuses fast pummelling and quick footwork, Giga Mac is all about demolishing the opponent with wind up punches and double overhand slams! Even better, he can charge up Star Punches just by mocking his foe!

Tempest: Unfortunately, Giga Mac also seems to trade stamina for power as well. While he can still take blows, he's finished if he's knocked down, even once.

Giga Mac

Transforms after Giga Mac Juice bar is filled by hitting the opponent at certain times
Trades speed for power
Can earn Star Punches just by taunting
Lacks stamina

Hydro Frez: Little Mac is a true beast in the ring, but like any combatant, he isn't without his faults.

Tempest: While Little Mac can take "building busting punches," he can only take so many before he's knocked out. Considerably, it takes a lot more to put his opponents down then it takes to shut down Little Mac. Assuming they can hit him of course.

Hydro Frez: The Star Punches, while incredibly powerful, can be easily lost. If Little Mac isn't careful, all of his hard work will be for nothing if he gets hit even once.

Tempest: And it stands to reason that since Giga Mac is much slower then his previous form, a fast opponent can most likely dance circles around him and his attacks are pretty predictable.

Weaknesses

While tough, Little Mac can only take so much punishment before he goes down
Getting hit results in the loss of all his Star Punches
Giga Mac is comparatively slower and more predictable

Tempest: Despite his faults and lack of games compared to say, the Pokemon or Fire Emblem series, Little Mac has proven to be one of Nintendo's most beloved characters and underdogs, so much that he was even one of the most requested characters for Super Smash Bros!

Hydro Frez: Too bad he's considered the number one loser for...reasons.

Tempest: Nah bro, you just suck at games.

Hydro Frez: Oh really? Care to back up those words? *points to Wii U in corner*

Tempest: Heh, bring it!

Hydro Frez: It's time, TO SETTLE IT IN SMASH!

*Author's note
See Avatar Aang vs Captain Planet for another example of an underdog "winning"
Time to let the Underdogs fight it out! While KO Kid score a win with his 'roids and flaming Super Punches? Or will Little Mac's experience and training knock KO Kid's lights out?
